Ten Commandments of graphic designers

Hi Freepikers. Today we bring you a new and funny post that you will enjoy for sure. These are the rules that you should obey if you are a graphic designer. The Ten Commandments of graphic designers. What do you think about them?

1. Thou shalt worship only at the altar of Jobs

Our savior, creator of all that is sleek, fast and admittedly overpriced. A designer who uses anything other than Apple is like a Formula One driver choosing to walk the race!

2. Thou shalt never use Word clip art images.

Sure, at one point that little stick figure scratching his head was cute, but in a world where there are other options, there really is no excuse! Take Freepik for example – we’re constantly adding to our database of free images and vectors!

3. Thou shalt not stretch, always kern.

Not only is stretching font horrific, it’s also really lazy! Show some pride in your work and don’t just cut corners.

4. Remember to save. Often.

Sometimes technology will fail you and having to tell a client that you’ve lost a whole day’s work because you forgot to press ‘save’ isn’t going to fly! If in doubt, oversave – it might just ‘save’ your life!

5. Thou shalt refrain from using Comic Sans. Ever.

Even ironically. The only people who can just about get away with this, are school teachers, and even then, we’re judging you, we’re just too scared to say anything!

6. Work for ‘exposure’ only shall be avoided at all costs.

This is a controversial topic but you can’t pay bills with exposure! The people you’re doing work for expect to be paid, and so should you, so don’t settle for exposure alone.

7. Honor thy whitespace

Blank space can be absolutely breathtaking if used correctly. Use it wisely.

8. Thou shalt not use images without correct attribution

Don’t be that guy! It’s not hard. If something doesn’t belong to you, make that clear. Freepik makes it easy to offer image attribution for each file downloaded so there really isn’t an excuse.

9. Thou shalt always proofread

You don’t want your work to go viral for all the wrong reasons! One little typo can make the difference between an Angus burger and… well, something entirely different!

10. Thou shalt not covet, simply buy without hesitation

Yes, you probably do need that new tablet/stylus/fancy keyboard/new programme etc. It’s integral to your life, your work and your very being. Stick it on expenses and hope for the best!
