#PaellaEmoji wins: the Spanish dish will have its own Unicode symbol

A while ago, an organization from Valencia, Spain, began a crusade to pursue a simple goal: to have a “paella emoji“. Now, months later, the Emojipedia is finally able to include the emoji amongst the already large collection, in the food category.

A “paella” (or the Shallow Pan of Food, as Unicode 9.0 lists it for their next update), is a typical Spanish rice dish originating in the region that started the revolution under the hashtag #PaellaEmoji. The organization also requested an appropriate ingredient revamp of the dish after the first icon proposal.

The icon was approved on Tuesday, after reviewing 40 finalist proposals for the final design. Given the success of the campaign, can you imagine what comes next? #BaconEmoji and #LasagnaEmoji sound like perfect candidates. (I just can’t wait for a Filet Mignon Emoji, although I’d rather have the real thing instead!).
