In this game, you can be anything you want. Literally, anything!
David O’Reilly, a California-based artist, has announced the future release of Everything, in which you can play as anything you want. The concept behind this game is to just be: anything that you could ever imagine, you can be. Want to be a bird? Deal. Want to be a dust mite? Why would you just not.
The game is intended as a meditative exercise, in which you can play any character (inanimate or not) and imagine how it must feel in its daily life. Though the scenarios are kept simple there is much depth to this game, and the soft color schemes and general look of the game are truly delightful.
Footnote: be a leaf.
O’Reilly is known for his animated shorts (External World being one of the most famous), but this isn’t his first shot at video games. On a previous experiment, Mountain, you are a bystander observing a floating mountain where you can only alter the speed with which time passes. In a mixture of music, beautiful scenery and philosophy, you become a witness to its birth and extinction.
Although there isn’t a release date yet, O’Reilly has stated that it won’t be too long until it’s out. How would a paper sheet feel being drawn on? What is it like for your laptop’s keys to be typed upon? I hope O’Reilly can give a satisfying response to that. Or at least make the lack of an answer up with some great art and music!
